UNHEALTHY HABITS FOR TEETH

Using your teeth for tools is extremely unhealthy for your teeth and gums. Think of opening a bottle cap with your teeth or tearing a package open with your teeth. Using tooth picks or chewing on pens, pencils or nails can be detrimental to your teeth. I will discuss these habits in more detail.

If someone is opening bottle caps or tearing open packages with their teeth this can potentially lead to chipping or in more serious incidents actually BREAKING a tooth or teeth. People who constantly have a toothpick wedged between teeth can lead to gum damage (receding gums) and even eventual bone loss around a tooth or teeth. It can also cause localized gum infection if a splinter breaks off and gets stuck beneath the gum. This also includes those in the carpentry business with holding nails in between teeth, not only is it not sanitary this too can lead to gum damage, bone loss and long time use can lead to tooth loss. Chewing on pens and pencils is not only toxic to your over well being but again can chip or displace teeth over longtime use.

In closing, do not use your teeth as an instrument as this can lead to unsightly gum issues, bone loss, infections and eventual tooth loss. Chewing on pens or pencils can lead to toxicity if the pen leaks or if lead is consumed from pencils. In avoiding these bad habits your teeth will last a lot longer. Keep on smiling!
