NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS 2025

As 2024 is starting to wind down we all likely think of New Year’s resolutions to make. Especially after the holidays, the usual ones are to eat more healthy foods, LOSE weight, and join a gym to exercise more. Have you ever thought of including improving your oral hygiene regimen? I will discuss in more depth with some very helpful tips.

First of all I would like to think of resolutions as goals to pursue. It is easier to say I didn’t achieve my resolution therefore I have broken it and completely give up. With using goals instead of resolutions it really gives you all year to achieve your goal or goals. It is difficult to say ” I give up on my goal or goals” instead it allows yourself forgiveness and leeway to get back on track.

If you plan to incorporate flossing to your routine, I suggest to ensure you are flossing correctly. If you are not flossing properly it can cause frustration and more importantly bleeding gums. Aim to floss every other day to begin with. Then gradually increase to flossing daily. Just like a new exercise goal if you go to the gym five days in a row you will likely end up hurting yourself and then that can lead to failure. Small simple steps will lead to success. Reward yourself for your small victories like treating yourself to a favourite restaurant.

In conclusion start slow with your oral health improvement goals. Notice how your mouth feels better on those days of flossing. Reward yourself for any small accomplishments and keep smiling!!!
